Marilyn Talmage, LMFT, LPCC
Individual Supervisor
I really enjoy working with adults and couples who are working toward better understanding of themselves and others, who are seeking help in finding new pathways for change and transformation. People may be experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, self-doubt, being stuck, or feeling disconnected from themselves. People often have unfinished business in their lives--incomplete dreams or fractured relationships. In the therapeutic relationship, we work toward gaining acceptance in a safe place while also challenging fixed ideas or life patterns that prove to not work for us any longer. Together, we work toward becoming more aware in an embodied way and reawakening our feelings and intuitions. Along with inner work, we may explore interpersonal relationships, vocational calling, leadership, creativity and organizational culture.
I’ve earned certificates in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Existential-Humanistic Therapy, and am in the third year of a Jungian Oriented Psychotherapy program at the San Francisco Jung Institute where certificates have been awarded. I have a good number of years of experience and training with Gestalt Therapy.
My work experience includes psychotherapy practice in California and Washington state for the past 15 years. I’m a Marriage and Family therapist in private practice at Santa Rosa, and have also worked at three community clinics, including Lomi. Prior to this career, my work experience includes teaching English and administering at the level of Dean of Instruction with the University of Alaska, business ownership and management of two hotels totaling 150 rooms, and self-employment as a consultant, writer, and in workshop development and promotion. Personal interests include reading literary fiction, writing and journaling, hiking, visiting with friends and family, study of psychology (lately Jung and Freud), listening to music, Sudoku and crosswords, taking webinars online, watching British detective mysteries, exploring the coastline and Northern California, other people’s pets, restaurant meals, and, occasionally, cooking.
